All traffic
citations issued within Charlotte County are handled by the Clerk
of the Circuit Court's Office.
You may pay all
traffic fines and court costs at any of the two office locations
of the Clerk of the Circuit Court between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Addresses listed below.
If you will be
submitting your payment through the mail, please do not send cash.
All cashier's checks or money orders should be made payable to
Barbara T. Scott, Clerk. Currently, our office will accept VISA or
MASTERCARD payments.
You must contact
our office within thirty (30) calendar days from the date you
receive a traffic citation by electing one of the following options
below:
OPTION #1
If there is no
court appearance required, and you wish to pay the penalty in full
accepting the points (if applicable), you can complete the Traffic
Option Form, enclose this form with the payment.
If the citation
was issued for not carrying or exhibiting valid driver's license, or
registration, or exhibit proof of insurance, valid proof of the
above must accompany the payment of a dismissal fee.
OPTION #2
To choose the
school option, complete the Traffic Option Form and the School
Affidavit Form, enclose them with the school option payment amount,
(see Fine Chart Form) below for school fine amount.
You must then
contact any school that offers a state approved basic (4) four hour
driving course and sign up. A fee may be charged for registration.
A list of approved schools is available through the yellow pages
under “driving instructions” or “traffic schools”. You may also
take a class offered through the internet. Upon completion of the
school, you must present proof of a completion certificate or
certificate number to the Clerk's Office within (60) sixty calendar
days of the original payment date, in order to have the points
withheld from your license.
PLEASE NOTE:
The driving school option can only be elected once in a twelve (12)
month period, and no more than five (5) times in a lifetime.
OPTION #3
You also have the
option of requesting an arraignment hearing. If you choose this
option, our office will schedule you for a hearing before the county
Judge. The arraignment will be held at the Charlotte County Justice
Center. If you enter a plea of Not Guilty at the arraignment
hearing you will be scheduled for a trail hearing at the Charlotte
County Justice Center.
You have thirty
(30) calendar days to submit payment or schedule a hearing with the
Clerk's Office. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of
your driving privileges. |
