JURY EXCUSAL/POSTPONEMENT FORMS AND INFORMATION

Certain
circumstances will disqualify or excuse an individual from jury
service as defined in the Florida Statutes, Ch. 40.013:
Being under prosecution for any crime. Having
convictions in Florida, federal court, or any other state, territory
or county, of bribery, forgery, larceny or any other felony offenses
unless civil rights have been restored.

Holding public office as Governor, Lieutenant
Governor, a Cabinet officer, Clerk of the Circuit Court or Judge.

Do not hold a valid Florida drivers license or
Florida identification card.

Non-citizen of the United States or non-resident of Charlotte County.

Expectant mothers or parents who are not employed
full-time and have custody of a child under the age of 6.

Persons employed as full-time federal, state, or
local law enforcement officers, or investigative personnel for
these entities.

The Judge may, in his/her discretion, grant a
permanent or one time excusal to physically infirmed persons with
a letter from their physician.

Persons who have served as jurors in the county
within the past 12 months.

Persons who are 70 years of age or older

Persons who are responsible for the care of those
who, because of mental illness or retardation, senility, or
physical or mental capacity, are incapable of caring for
themselves.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court can grant a
postponement of jury duty for up to six months, to a specific date,
as authorized by law. This means that if you requested and are
granted a postponement, you can select a convenient date within six
months to serve.
If you are summoned to serve and you feel you should
be excused, you may contact the Jury Division of the Clerk of the
Circuit Court or fill out the electronic jury excusal form.
