When I was first elected
Clerk of the Circuit Court in 1984, there were several
responsibilities contained within the almost 1,000 different
constitutional and statutory functions of my office that I felt
needed to be improved upon in order to better serve the
community.

Clerk's
computer system makes records accessible
When Barbara Scott first took
office as Clerk of the Charlotte County Circuit Court in 1985,
she had a vision.
In March 1999, Scott's vision
came true when the office unveiled its Court Automation System.
It not only fulfilled a state mandate that county courts
computerize their records, it set a benchmark that other Florida

Use your Credit Card to make
payments!
Civil Traffic payments can now be
made using your Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) at the Clerk's
office located at the Justice Center, Monday through Friday from
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (except holidays). Cash, check, or money
order payments are still accepted at all Clerk offices.

Recent changes to Florida's
Judgment Lien Law have become effective as of October 1, 2001.
Information on the steps necessary to collect a judgment granted
you under Florida's New Judgment Lien Law, as required by
Chapter 2002-56 Committee Substitute for Committee Substitute

Charlotte
County Clerk demonstrates Electronic Filing
The first all
Florida Court Technology Conference was held September 25-27
2000, at
the Clearwater Hilton. Representatives
from the Charlotte County Clerk's Office gave an overview and a
technical demonstration of the electronic case filing in
Charlotte County.
Also present at the conference was an international faculty covering
new advances and best practices in e-commerce,
courtroom technologies, integrated justice information systems,
and data.

T. Scott elected to Association Office
The Florida Association
of Court Clerks and Comptroller elected the Honorable Barbara T.
Scott, Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court as Association
Secretary for the upcoming year.
